Adding Details

Hello 4th graders!  I would like you to make sure this week when you write to me (or comment on a friend's note) that you use examples and details from the story.

  1. I have one more chapter in the book "Frindle"
by Andrew Clements. This boy Nick Allen uses the word frindle instead of pen. Mrs. Granger says people make up the words in the Dictionaray and so the word frindle became spread around the country. It became an ordanary word.

  2. Hi Kate,
So, what do you think about calling a pen a frindle? What do you think about his behavior and not using the word pen when he was asked to? What did you like best about the book?

  5. Hi Mrs. Phillips
Summer Reading is Killing Me was an interesting book. I didn't enjoy it as much as Clementine or the Magic Tree House books. One part I did enjoy is when Joe and his friends went to a world full of good and bad characters. The bad characters trapped the good characters in cages. The good characters managed to get out of the cage because the bad bear fell asleep. The bad bear was going to drop a bunch of books on them.

  6. Hi Tiarra,
Have you read Holes? That is one of my favorites. I love it when the ending is a surprise. The series of the City of Ember is that way too. I loved reading the last book after reading all the rest to see how they were all connected. Have you read any in that series?

  7. Daniel,
Are you enjoying The City of Ember? Is it making sense being that you read the second one first?

    Dear Mrs. Phillips,
My favorite part in the Hardy boys book was when Joe got kidnapped and there was a reward to find him. Frank found him and was shot. Then, they both ended up in the hospital. My challenge to you is to read another Hardy Boys book.

P.S. I just finished Snowboard Maverick by Matt Christopher.

  10. Hi Dylan,
I will read a Hardy Boys book before the year is over. You have to recommend one to me, which do you think is the best so far?
Did you enjoy Snowboard Maverick? You read it quickly, I would guess that it was pretty good.
    What are you reading now?

  11. I think it was a bad idea to make up a word because along the way he got in alot of
trouble. When Mrs. Granger asked him to write the word pen 100 times they all wrote frindle.
I liked when Nick got in trouble.

  12. I read a book called "My Life as a Broken Bungee cord".It's about a kid who falls out of a hot air balloon and is now a broken bungee cord.I think the best part was when he got kicked by a
bull when he fell because the book discribed it very funny.

  13. Sorry I was gone a long time. We only have one computer. Now I am reading the Hardy Boys series. It is really fun. I liked the part when the burglars try to steal Mr. Wright's new invention. The burglars try to open a safe by dynamite.

  14. Hi Ben,
Did they get the safe open? Did they find what they were looking for? Or, was the safe empty?

  15. Hi Kate,
I guess I might have to read your book, I can't quite imagine how a kid falls out of a hot air balloon and turns into a broken bungee cord. Does he turn back into a boy? Have you ever had a ride in a hot air balloon? I did a bunch of years ago. It was amazing how loud the fire was when they had to turn it on to make the air in the balloon hot again.
